Your eternal bachelor buddy got into a massive car accident. The person who ran into him was very drunk and is very rich. They cut him a check for $8k told him to keep his mouth shut and replace his beater with something nicer.
Since we want to keep this on the down low he'll need to pay in cash and not from a dealer.
What do you recommend?

The newest and best car I could find for $8k. No delusions of jalopness or other crack pipe wishes. Waymoe is not stupid. Waymoe is love. Waymoe is life.

Assuming he got a "routine physical" to make sure there aren't any broken bits I would recommend something that has better crash test ratings.
Though given the situation I would assume the answer is pickup truck.

A True Lies reference! I don't know what's more shocking. The fact that you dropped one or that I got it from memory.

Tell him life starts at 40 and "nice" starts at 50.

Then he wins I guess. It'll be way too late to go to the cops.

That is how you know this is a fantasy scenario. Rich guys don't write checks, because they can be traced, and rich guys got rich by scheming one way or another. C.R.E.A.M.

I didn't realize it was a true lies reference.

Hypothetically, he was.

$8k plus a nicer car? Because "massive car accident" and "very drunk" is worth a lot more than $8k!

The DUI alone would have cost the guy almost twice the $8000 in court costs and attorney fees. If your friend wanted to be shady and not report it to insurance, he could have gotten a helluva lot more for his shadiness. Always report accidents to and don't be privy to insurance fraud.
